The Stay Away, Joe track appears on two consecutive Camden albums – the other album being CAS-2408 Let's Be Friends. RCA recognized this and replaced the track with Stay Away, an entirely different song. It has long been asserted that this change occurred in 1973, from sources dating back to 1976.9 However, new evidence suggests that early 1972 is more likely. First consider the confusion. The official RCA Listing Notice dated 8/24/1970 lists the track as “Stay Away, Joe”.10 CAL-2428 Elvis' Christmas Album released 10/1/1970 and CALX-2472 You'll Never Walk Alone released 3/22/1971 lists the track as “Stay Away”. It wasn’t until the release of CAL-2533 I Got Lucky in 10/1971 that the track is listed as “Stay Away, Joe”. Two more Camden releases CAS-2595 Burning Love and Hits From His Movies, Volume 2 in 11/1/1972 and CAS-2611 Separate Ways in 12/1/1972 also lists “Stay Away, Joe.” Now consider the evidence. A copy was purchased in 5/12/1972 with “Stay Away”. The details of the purchase date is on the original shrink-wrap purchased by the original owner.11
