For many years, there was a great website called www.elviscanada.com. It was the only website of it’s kind in that it provided great detail and lists of the Elvis Presley Canadian discography. It was a valuable contribution to Elvis collectors everywhere. I referenced it quite often. Recently, I have discovered that it no longer exists. The information is seemingly gone forever. I could not find any other site that even touches on the extensive Elvis Presley Canadian Record Catalog. I was fortunate enough to recover that information to bring it back to the Elvis collector community. As updates become available, references5 will follow. On August 31, 2013, Tom McCallum, the curator of www.elviscanada.com emailed that the site is back!

2765-lsp-sticker

Sticker: Reads FREE! FREE! FREE in this album an ELVIS PRESLEY 16 PAGE COLOR PHOTO FOLIO PLUS Giant Size Pin-up Picture of ELVIS.1

This is a one-of-a-kind discovery, originally reported on February 4, 2013 on Soundz Good Records Facebook page. A record store had acquired an Elvis record collection from the daughter of a woman whom had passed. Of the records, Elvis’ Gold Records, Vol. 3 was acquired by Robert Alaniz and is shown exactly how it was found. Although in shrink-wrap, the record not sealed, is a true first (“1S”) Indianapolis pressing. This is unusual since most silver stereo labels were distributed in baggies, though not impossible. As Presleyana VII states, the folio was mailed to record shops as a give-a-way with LP purchase and to fan clubs and Elvis fans in a special promotional envelope. It now appears to have been packaged this way too, albeit in limited quantity. The general belief is that the sticker and method of packaging was not done through the normal RCA channels, however, likely packaged by local record distributors or at the retail level. It is also speculated that those whom had purchased this LP with sticker would have discarded the shrink-wrap to get to the record and folio, as is the case of the From Memphis To Vegas sticker. In April 2013, this complete package sold for a reported $1,500. The new owner carefully removed the folio to inspect the condition; and the folio revealed several pages with fingerprints indicating that it had been removed before. Because of the intentional position of the sticker on the shrink-wrap as it is angled with the frame on the cover, and slight indentation on the cover itself, the folio was originally packaged inside the cardboard cover as indicated on the sticker.3

Release Date: 1976

The copyright on the back of the cover reads 1975. Presleyana VII “1 and other price guides dates this release in 1976. However, there are two indicators that this may have been released in late 1977. Two copies of the record have the dates written into the trail-off area, 8/77 and 11/77. Another indicator is a published discography2 from 1976 covering Elvis records through May 1976 and with an introduction dated December 1976 does not list this title. Although these are logical indicators that the album was released in 1977, no concrete evidence has been presented to suggest 1976 is not the correct date. A collector has a specific memory of this release as being 1976 as it coincided with Hurt / For the Heart.3 A copy has 2/76 in the trail-off was found on eBay 4

Promotional Material

lpm-2426-promo-poster

This is a store banner used to promote and see Elvis “Blue Hawaii” on NBC-TV Tuesday, September 13. Hear Elvis on the original soundtrack recording. Now available on RCA stereo 8 tape cartridge. RCA Victor. There are interesting points about this poster. One this poster is from 1966, five years after the original release. The second interesting point is that RCA is promoting the MONAURAL release of this record, not the stereo, as they did with their 1961 poster.7

Compared to other Elvis releases. This cover is a real mess. I have seen the cover front with RE with original no RE back with AFL1-3989 sticker. The majority of the covers I have seen include the original no RE back. However, the RE back also exists in relatively less common numbers with the original no RE front.
