The answer was made clear in September 21, 1956 in an RCA Victor publication called Deejay Digest.

For the millions of Elvis Presley fans who couldn't afford his LP and EP's but desperately wanted a few of the selections, RC Victor is making available in single form, 14 sides from the amazing lad's packaged disks. The seven platters display the versatile star on slow and fast number, rock 'n' roll and country numbers, and even a Rodgers and Hart song, "Blue Moon". It won't be at all surprising if as many as a half dozen hit the best seller lists. And the way this kid is selling records, it's possible that all 14 will make it. The seven record set is a sensational release for juke box operators. Each disk is sure to be a solid money-maker.1

Fourteen tunes, formerly available on Presley's LP's or EP's, now available on seven singles, within reach of any kid with 89 cents.1
