There are two RCA Listing notices for this catalog number. Both notices have the same matrix number prefixes of H2PH; however, the song titles differ. The first notice is dated September 23, 1957 and the second revised notice, October 7, 1957. The second notice revision is the order of the songs and the replacement of two of two of the tracks. There is less than a two week difference in these notices. This is a unique and extremely rare find.1“

Listing Notices4
The first RCA Listing Notice list EPA-4041 to include the song Don’t Leave Me Now and the second states the removal Don’t Leave Me Now and to destroy all labels in favor of the replacement song Is It So Strange.

A copy of a cover was found in October 2012 with song titles on top; however note that the song titles differ where Don’t Leave Me Now is printed instead of Is It So Strange. This observation of the song title difference went unnoticed by this site for several years. Thanks to the observations of Howard B.5 for bringing this to light. The original RCA Listing Notice6 lists Don’t Leave Me Now which is scratched through with the replacement song of Is It So Strange. It was believed that only a copy of the cover exited until a find by Tommy. unearthed another cover along with the record that actually plays Don’t Leave Me Now. His recent purchase in November 2017 of this record was purely accidental. He needed a copy of Just For You to add to his collection, and the rest is history. There is no logical reason for this record to exist, but it does. There are no recorded sales of a complete package of this catalog number with Don’t Leave Me Now, but based on other oddities and one-offs, this one by our accounts should be in the conservative range of $3500 to $5000 in value.

There are three variations for the copyright information bottom centered on the back. The fourth image contains overlays in high contrast of two different covers to detail the major differences between the two.

  • Bottom incorrectly reads Radio Corporation o fAmerica, © aligned with the fourth letter in vitalize and extends through the end of the line with the “s” in listeners.
  • Bottom correctly reads Radio Corporation of America, © aligned with the fourth letter in vitalize and extends through the end of the line with the “s” in listeners.1
  • Bottom correctly reads Radio Corporation of America, © aligned with the seventh letter in vitalize and extends through the end of the line with the “s” in listeners.1

The variation in copyright offsets was documented by Burning Love Records in an eBay auction which ended September 11, 2011. A comparison of a few dozen specimens reveal that this offset is likely as common as the corrected typeset. The copyright spacing is the most obvious difference, there is also differences in length on at least the end of a couple of paragraphs, but only visible when overlaid using a graphic editor.3

This 1959 Hollywood pressing seems to be very difficult to find. We accidentally uncovered this gem in December 2017. It would seem that any Hollywood pressing for this catalog number may prove elusive. As noted elsewhere on the site, sometime in late 1959, RCA dropped Camden, NJ from the record label, which would date this label variation somewhere between 1959 and 1965.

Cover: Temporary paper envelope / sleeve. Larger than a standard 45 RPM sleeve, reminiscent of a mailer envelope. Coated paper stock. The back contains a glue strip on top. The paper fold is glued over the bottom and there is a seam along the middle of the back. Also came with an insert explaining the use of temporary sleeves.

The images for Side 1 surfaced in the late 1990s early 2000s on the Internet. The six song titles match those found on an early record store giveaway found here Record Store Giveaways. As I have not seen Side 2 with three song titles on the label; the only evidence of the removal of the third song from the label can be seen from the images provided below. It shouldn’t be assumed that a copy with this label exists. Both images are mockups sourced from existing images. Until such time a label of Side 2 with three song titles should come to light, this is a fantasy label.

The UPKM-2773 is directly below the catalog number, like the red label of 12/1970. However, compare all other orange labels, regular release Elvis for 1968 and 1969 and it can be seen that the take will be directly below the music publisher and above the time. This take is in an odd place for an orange label. The placement of UPKM-2773 label is consistent with Elvis beginning with April 1970 with 47-9835. An RCA release from 2/1970 with catalog 47-9810 places the take number directly below the catalog number. Also, 2/1970 catalog 47-9806 places the take number under the music publisher and above the time. I would place this copy between 2/1970 and 12/1970. A reasonable guess would place this more likely around 3/1970 to promote the sacred albums on the back as well as this title for Easter. There are distinct differences between the this orange label and the red label 447-0665 in cases and commas or no commas so I would not consider this a transitional label. Paul Dowling of Worldwide Elvis has independently confirmed in this analysis and opinion.

This record sold on Aug. 27, 2016 for $675 on eBay7. The description offers some insight into it’s reason for existence. “One of a kind orange label We Call on Him / You’ll Never Walk Alone 47-9600 made in the USA. This is not a gold standard release, the original was a black label DOS, the guy I got it from said his dad worked for RCA in Indianapolis and this could have been a trial printing to see what the new orange label was going to look like and that this could possibly be the very first RCA 45 to be printed on the new upcoming orange label. Record is very good shape not mint on a scale of 1 to 10 it is an 8 also comes with an original picture sleeve.7“
