To date, this site has been touch with some of the largest and longtime collectors in the hobby and three copies can be accounted for since February 2020. Almost 50 years for a picture of one of these to surface.

This is a counterfeit of the original South African release Tickle Me album, release year unknown for the moment, 1980 is a filler. The cover and record labels are nearly identical in graphics and font layout. However, the cover is much more cheaply made. The original South African release label is flat, whereas this counterfeit has indentations in the vinyl which gives the ridged effect to the label. The trail-off area on side 1 on the counterfeit incorrectly states SQPP-4017A, where on the label it is SQPP-4016. This counterfeit may have been printed to fill the gaps of some collections, however, be careful some may pass this one off as an original.

It is also interesting to note that the cover has for side 2, Jim Said hello, whereas the record label is correct with Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello.

Elvis Presley EP Canadian Discography

Elvis Presley Extended Play (EP) Canadian Discography
This discography will focus on the Extended Play (EP) releases. Most Canadian releases are the same as the U.S. releases, except for the label. However, additional differences will be noted accordingly.

can-ep-bluecan-ep-blackcan-ep-red

The Blue labels and Silver and Grey labels were used throughout the 1950s. The Black Dog on Top labels were used from 1962 through 1965. The red label was used in 1967.

Additional Detail
Only one EP “Elvis By Request” was pressed/issued on the Compact Double 33 label. The label is near-identical to the U.S. label. The only differences are that LPC 128 appears on two lines, not one, and the title is closer to the centre hole as the credits for “Flaming Star” are on three lines and not two. There is a Canadian cover for this release with © Printed in Canada printed on the front bottom of the cover.1

2-15154387c5141c

About the Extended Play Covers
RCA Canada did not always print its own EP sleeves. In some cases, U.S. sleeves were used. It is not unusual to find a Canadian record with a U.S. jacket (says “© Printed in U.S.A.” and not “© Printed in Canada”). EPA-992 “Elvis” is documented as the first Canadian printed EP jacket. The example below is EPA-5088.2 It has been confirmed that Easy Come, Easy Go was also issued with a Canadian sleeve.1

epa-5088-cover-side2-canada

Promotional Extended Plays
There are two known extended plays that were released with white label promo labels. They are EPA-4319 “King Creole” and EPA-4325 “Elvis Sails”. These were issued with U.S. covers.4

Special Products Extended Plays
The special product records are among the rarest of all Elvis records. Examples includes SPA-7-37 (Perfect for Parties), DTFO-2006 (Aloha Juke Box EP), DJ-56, SPA-7-27 (Save On Records), and so on. Which of these were issued on a Canadian label is unknown and still being discovered. The only one discovered to date is the Great Country/Western Hits, a 10 EP box set issued on the Silver & Grey label. There is one Elvis record, sides 6 & 15, with the songs Blue Moon of Kentucky, Love Me Tender, Mystery Train and Milkcow Blues Boogie (shows as Milkcow Boogie Blues on the record). In addition to the label difference, the set differs from the U.S. version only in that there are no separator inserts.

References
For many years, there was a great website called www.elviscanada.com. It was the only website of it’s kind in that it provided great detail and lists of the Elvis Presley Canadian discography. It was a valuable contribution to Elvis collectors everywhere. I referenced it quite often. Recently, I have discovered that it no longer exists. The information is seemingly gone forever. I could not find any other site that even touches on the extensive Elvis Presley Canadian Record Catalog. I was fortunate enough to recover that information to bring it back to the Elvis collector community. As updates become available, references will follow. On August 31, 2013, Tom McCallum, the curator of www.elviscanada.com emailed that the site is back!

Elvis Presley 78 RPM Canadian Discography
This discography will focus on the original 78 RPM releases. Most Canadian releases are the same as the U.S. releases, except for the label. However, additional differences will be noted accordingly. All 25 78 RPM records were also available with the “Record Prevue” promo on the silver and grey label.

References For many years, there was a great website called www.elviscanada.com.

RE on the back cover. There are other notable differences between the CPL2 and APL2 releases. Also available on Stereo 8 – APS2-2587 and Cassette – APK2-2587 is omitted. P.D. for Also sprach Zarathustra is now associated with ASCAP. Early Morning Rain has one | not two | | as seen on the APL back cover. The cover may be found in heavy cardboard stock and thin white stock. The thin white stock seems to have a unique characteristic to on the back of the cover, the catalog number is bold and smeared.

Cover Front: RCA Victor logo and catalog number in upper right. With our without white border around the edges of the cover.
Cover Back: Number at upper right. Previously released as LPM-1707 lower left corner.1

The second cover variation with about a half inch white border around the front of the cover was just discovered on November 1, 2020. The white border extends around the spline so that the text is on the white border too. This stand out was quite elusive and the numbers suggest that it could be rare. You be the judge.

This release may or may not contain the OBI “original banner included” that reads: A collectible The Definitive Rock Classic Restored to original MONO digitally remastered, quality pressing, on heavy virgin vinyl. There are significant differences between this bootleg compared to the original, SP 33-461 Special Palm Sunday Programming. The matrix numbers in the trail-off area are not the same. There is a mistake in the matrix number on side 2, where UPRM replaced UNRM. The original vinyl is rigid, the bootleg is flexible with flat label. The flat label, looks like a photocopy of the original rigid vinyl, defects included.3 This two sided LP contains a complete half-hour program with spot announcements and selections from the RCA Victor album “How Great thou Art” (LPM/LSP-3758) and was released in a white cardboard sleeve.
